Sony ereader how long to charge

Alf 1 Standard Member. Hi Alf, Thanks for the info. Unfortunately I read this information page sometime ago and was aware of the content. Despite having been told by a lackey at Sony that turning the unit off uses up power, in direct contradiction.

The problem with doing this is that if I turn the unit 'off' properly it re-indexes it's self when you switch it on.

This takes about 15 hours to complete for my SF books, the process will drain the battery before completing, and must be done on mains power. The automatic re-indexing should be able to be turned off. Sony claim upto 13, eBooks can be used, I dread to think how a reader with that number of books would perform. I will try and get a page life for you what books do you read?? Hi Alf, I mainly read SciFi books. I'm going to try copying a number of books to the units main memory, and see what happens.

At the moment I'm trying to find a way to strip the annoying headers out of the PDF files. Then I'll convert the books to some other format. Sonic67 Banned. SparkyC Standard Member. Bought a Sony PRS some time ago and have to say the battery life is appalling.

Even on a full charge, the reader lasts about weeks, sometimes less if I do not use it. Like using the product, but the battery life really irritates me. Cloysterpeteuk Distinguished Member. I can't speak for the Sony machines but the Kindle 3 battery is fantastic, got it on the 9th and charged it fully, used it everyday weeknights hours reading , used a few hours of wi-fi and 3G while testing web browser, checking e-mails and using the store when not in use I turn wireless off.

I've also moved the device in and out of sleep mode maybe times, yes thats an insane number but I have hundreds of customs screensavers on so I'm always flicking through them. Also Kindles don't lose power while sleeping, they display the screensaver constantly unlike say the Kobo I think and wake up from sleep in one second, no need to ever turn them off. I've got a Kindle 3 now, battery life is very good as you say. Battery capacity in the new Sony eReader range is much less than the Kindle.

What we need now is for an eReader designer with half a brain to put some photovoltaic cells on a reader, then it would charge itself. Problem over. I've got serious problem with battery, almost can't use reader. Two weeks ago i started to use device only for audiobooks for a week, until i've found reduction of lifetime from 3 days using player to 1 day, so i stopped listening and deleted all mp3's. But lifetime still was reducing quickly to a hour of reading pages.

I formated memory there was never more than 30 books , removed SD, cleared settings, reinstalled firmware, tried to charge via PSP adapter, but all of this have no effect.

Now after full charge and pageturns i get "low battery" message, and extra turns before shutdown. I'm thankful for any ideas. I read on another forum somewhere that taking the back off the unit and unplugging the battery for a couple of minutes, had a beneficial effect.

It's just a matter of undoing a couple of screws, sliding off the back and pulling out a plug. Maybe this resets something. I've no idea if it actually works, but it might be worth trying, other than that geting a replacement battery is the obvious course of action.

Thank u for reply. I googled a lot and saw this advice too, but i doubt about opening back, because Also, they don't repair batteries, lol, so i'm waiting for explanatory answer from support.

I will update this post if any progress. The [Home] screen appears. When the icon turns into the icon, charging is complete. In this mode, the Reader is not detected by your computer. The battery status indicator shows the charging status or approximate remaining charge of the battery. Four bars indicate a fully charged or almost-fully charged battery.

Zero bars indicate that the battery has almost no remaining charge. Go to page top. Data transfer mode. After a short time, the [Home] screen will appear. Count the number of bars inside the battery icon when it isn't plugged into a computer or an electrical outlet. Four bars indicate that the battery is fully charged, or close to fully charged. Fewer bars indicate that the battery is not fully charged. Check the battery indicator. If the indicator has a lightning bolt over it, the battery is charging.
