Naturally, you have to go get it. You must head out into the Dalmasca Westersand, deep into the Wind Dunes. When you get there, you must look for some cactus-like plants. They have one more task for you, a difficult task indeed. Head towards your destination as ascribed by your friends in the Westersand.
You can take him on without having to worry much about status effects or putting some good things like Haste or Protect on your party. Just take him with some melee action and keep a close eye on your health. While exploring the Westersand you may have encountered a small area in the top right corner of the map that you can't traverse because of a terrible sandstorm.
You might also have caught a glimpse of a huge Tyrant in the storm. After receiving the Dawn Shard you can do something about the beast. The first thing to do is find Rimzat at Rabanastre's Westgate.
He's there to study sandstorms but the storms are too violent for him to study. He then asks you for help. Now to the Southern Plaza and find Cotze who's sitting on the fountain. He directs you to Northon who's in the Number 5 Storehouse in Lowtown. Northon tells you that you'll need a Windvane to get through the storms but the one he used to have was broken into two pieces. He sends you to the sectioned off part of Windtrace Dunes with all the Dynast-Cactoids.
Once again, continue along the linear pathway, but this time heading to the west. There are a few areas on the south side of the map where treasure chests are likely to spawn. These treasure chests have a fairly good chance of containing some good items an Oak Staff and a Mage Masher to be specific though they may not have randomly spawned and they may not contain those specific items depending on how lucky you are.
